Practice Areas: Sergio Velázquez is an intellectual property lawyer, focused on litigating before administrative and judicial intellectual property rights authorities. Primarily with respect to trademarks, copyrights and related rights, as well as unfair competition.

Professional Memberships: Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.

Career: He worked in the litigation department of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and was in charge of planning resolutions of administrative declarations of annulment and abandonment of distinctive signs and patents, as well as appeals. He has acted as an independent litigation lawyer and as an intellectual property academic in superior educational institutions like the postgraduate Law studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Active member of the Copyright and Related Rights Committee.

Academic: Master in Intellectual Property and Competition Law from the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center at the Max Planck Society (2008), with the thesis "The Criminal Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the European Context". Degree in Law from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM, 2005), with the thesis: "La Protección de Obras Autorales en Formato Digital", winner of the contest: Research Papers in the Field of Intellectual Property, of AMPPI (2005).
